Andre Russell is ruled out of World Cup because of knee injury
West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell was ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup because of his persistent knee injury. Russell took five wickets in four games for the team before missing the Windies’ match against Black Caps last Saturday because of his injury.
Instead, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that Windward Islands cricket team batsman Sunil Ambris will replace Russell in the tournament.
“The International Cricket Council has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 has approved Sunil Ambris as a replacement player for Andre Russell in the West Indies squad for the remainder of the tournament,” announced the ICC in a statement.
Amris has an average of 105.33 in his six one-day international (ODI) matches. The St. Vincentian batsman will join the West Indies team ahead of their upcoming match against India on Thursday. Windies currently have +250 odds to win the match while the Men in Blue have -312 odds.
