Pacer Navdeep Saini says he will work hard to be included in Test squad
Speedster Navdeep Saini said he will work hard to be included in the Test squad of India cricket team. The young pacer made his debut in the T20I in the recently-concluded tour in West Indies. Saini was given the Man of the Match award.
‘Our bowling unit in the Test format is very strong. When I was with the team (in West Indies) I realised that I’ll have to work harder to get into the side. Only by doing that and I might get a chance’, said Saini.
But the India management team wants to groom Saini in red-ball cricket.
‘Saini has been a performer in red-ball cricket for the past few years. He has the pace, and ability to hit the deck, move the ball both in air and off the pitch’, said the selectors.
The 26-year-old speedster was given a chance to train in Test format as a net bowler for Bhuvneshwar Kumar during the ICC World Cup. He said that he learned many techniques from senior pacers.
‘When I speak to bowlers like Shami, Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar in the nets I get a lot of help from them. At the international level error of margin is very less so I learn how to work around it in practice’, he said.
When he was asked about Kohli’s captaincy, he said that he learned a lot from the skipper. Saini and Kohli played together for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
‘Playing under Virat bhai’s captaincy helps me a lot. He always talks about commitment. He says if you have to achieve anything you should be committed to it completely’, he said.
