After suffering a thumb injury at the ICC World Cup, Dhawan has suffered a knee injury in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Nothing has been going Shikhar Dhawan’s way lately. With the way he is performing lately, he looks more like a shadow of his former self. After returning to action at the West Indies tour, his performance has been less than average. It wouldn’t come as a surprise then if selectors don’t select him to be a part of an ODI or T20I team. The last time he played was against Bangladesh in a T20I match where he failed to make a good impression.
The player, who lost his place in the Test teams, only scored 41, 31, and 19 runs in the three Test matches against Bangladesh. Even before then, he faced many criticisms for his performance which eventually led him to play for Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Some thought that returning to the domestic scene would help improve his chances and fortunes, but it didn’t.
Things immediately went from bad to worse for Dhawan when he injured his knee while playing against Maharashtra. He was attempting a dive to return to his crease when a piece of wood in his batting pad pierced his knee and made a deep cut. When he returned to the pavilion, he realized how deep the cut was and had to be hospitalised.
Hours after receiving an injury, he announced on Twitter that it would take him just four to five days to recover. However, it would take longer than that. According to reports, the opener is unlikely to recover in time for the upcoming three-match T20I series against the West Indies which will begin on December 6. He has been ruled out of the series.
Also, in the report, a replacement was named and it’s Sanju Samson. He is set to replace Dhawan in the T20I team. Samson was originally part of the T20I squad that was going to play against Bangladesh. However, he was just on the bench in all those games and was unexpectedly dropped from the team.
Shikhar Dhawan was part of India’s ODIs squad that participated in the ICC World Cup earlier this year. To find out more about India’s upcoming matches, visit Betwala’s page.
