Last Sunday, Shikhar Dhawan suffered a left shoulder injury in the Bangalore ODI against Australia.
The opener is ruled out of the upcoming five-match T20I and three-match ODI series against New Zealand. Shikhar Dhawan sustained an injury during a match against Australia.
In replacement of Dhawan, the India cricket team has called Sanju Samson for the T20I series, while Prithvi Shaw will substitute for Dhawan in the ODIs.
The BCCI said, ‘An MRI of his shoulder was conducted, and the results have confirmed a grade II injury of his acromioclavicular joint. His hand will be in a sling and he has been advised rest for some time. He will start his active rehab management in the first week of February at the National Cricket Academy’.
Dhawan suffered an injury after putting in a dive in the first innings of the ODI series decider. Since he couldn’t go back to the field, India chased with a batsman short. Dhawan was spotted with his left hand strapped in a sling.
Now, the ODI squad consists of captain, Virat Kohli and teammates, Rohit Sharma, Prithvi Shaw, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Navdeep Saini, Shardul Thakur, Kedar Jadhav.
Meanwhile, the T20I squad will include almost everyone from the ODI squad, with the addition of Washington Sundar, Prithvi Shaw and Kedar Jadhav.
The first match between India (-178.57) and New Zealand (+152) will begin on Friday, January 24 at the Eden Park.
