Delhi Capitals player Shreyas Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakh for their slow overrate against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The Delhi Capitals suffered a 15-run defeat against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Following this defeat, team captain Shreyas Iyer took another blow when he had been fined with Rs 12 lakh for slow over rate.
This has been confirmed by a statement release from IPL which read, ‘Delhi Capitals Captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Dream11 Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Abu Dhabi on 29 September 2020’.
‘As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakh’, the statement added.
So far, this is the second slow over rate offence in IPL 2020. In fact, last week, Royal Challengers Bangalore team captain Virat Kohli has also been proved guilty of letting his team maintain a slow over rate against the Kings XI Punjab. He was also fined Rs 12 lakh like Iyer.
Iyer was fined after his team had failed to complete their quota of 20 overs in the allotted time. In fact, the team had extended their playing time by 23 minutes. In the said game, SRH chose to bat first. Upon ending their turn, the team scored 162 for 4 in the allotted 20 overs.
After having switched places, Delhi Capitals only managed to score 147 for 7 with Shikhar Dhawan as their top scorer. As the team saw their first IPL 2020 defeat, SRH saw their first victory as they had lost against RCB in their first game.
To date, Delhi Capitals had already dropped to the second spot in the table next to the Rajasthan Royals. Now, the team is currently preparing to play another game against the Kolkata Knight Riders on October 3 in Sharjah. To know more about these IPL teams, visit Betwala.
