Smriti Mandhana is dropped from ODI because of a toe fracture
Smriti Mandhana is ruled out of the three-match ODI series after sustaining a toe fracture. Seam bowler Pooja Vastrakar has been tasked to replace Mandhana for the limited-overs match. It is still unknown when Mandhana can come back to play for the India team. According to India women’s head coach, a team of physiologists are handling Mandhana’s condition.
‘The call will be taken after assessment by the physios in the NCA and we'll take it as it comes along. It's difficult to fix a timeline right away. She still needs to get an MRI done, for that the swelling has to reduce. So once that is done, an assessment will be done by the head physio at NCA’.
The head coach also added that Vastrakar’s presence in the team will challenge the all-rounder's department. The coach also said that they have an opener reserved for Mandhana’s absence.
'We do have a reserve opener in Priya Punia, if Smriti was fit I don't think she would have been playing. So that base is covered. And we also tried to see the kind of all-round talent that we have. That's the reason why she (Vastrakar) is being drafted in’.
India women’s team is scheduled to play their second ODI against South Africa women’s team on Friday, October 11, 2019, at Reliance Stadium, Vadodara.
The cricket odds are in favour of India women’s team ( -357.14) while South Africa’s odds are (+285). To know more about cricket odds, check out Betwala.
