The Aussie batsman did not play in the match because of his injury
Ben Stokes played England’s hero in the recent Leeds Test as he led the team to victory against Australia. Stokes was one of the key players during the match, adding 76 runs for the last wicket of the match with Jack Reach. England caught up with Australia after their Leeds Test victory. Both teams have now won one Test match in the Ashes series this year. Aussie batsman Smith was rested in the Leeds Test but he was able to watch the match. He complimented Smith’s performance in the game.
‘I’m not a great watcher of cricket, never really have been so I didn’t quite enjoy that, but what an advertisement for Test cricket. It was a pretty amazing innings from Stokesy. He completely turned the series on its head. We had an opportunity to wrap it up but he was incredible’, said Smith. England won the Leeds Test by one wicket. The fourth Test of the series starts on September 4. Stokes and Smith are expected to play for their teams.
Smith also said that Stokes is a ‘tough competitor’ in the Ashes series. ‘He (Stokes) thrives under pressure as we’ve seen the last couple of months and he turned the game there at the end. I think you could see the passion and fight he showed. He never gave up’, Smith continued.
Ben Stokes was also England’s key players in the ICC Cricket World Cup finals when the team played against New Zealand.
