Virender Sehwag believes that the selectors should tell Dhoni ASAP.
Veteran Wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni is still to make an announcement regarding his future on international cricket. Even the selectors and management are unsure how to go about it. Reports are saying that he will not be part of the team touring the West Indies from August to September.
There were reports that Dhoni would play his last international game after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. His terrific performance in their semi-finals match against New Zealand nearly brought them back from the brink of defeat. Even captain Virat Kohli didn’t have any news regarding Dhoni's decision.
The selection process will be held on July 19, and while the veteran has reportedly made himself unavailable for the tour, the selectors are uncertain how they are going to address the matter. Some players such as former opener Virender Sehwag said Dhoni has all the rights to take a call on his retirement. He also said that chief selector MSK Prasad should reach out to Dhoni to help him decide about his future if the selectors do not see him as the first-choice keeper-batsman.
“It should be left to MS Dhoni to decide when to hang his boots. The duty of the selectors is to reach out to Dhoni and inform him that he is no more being seen as India’s wicket-keeper batsman going forward. I wish the selectors had asked me as well about my plans so I would also have been able to inform them,” Sehwag said.
MS Dhoni's fate could be in the balance, and the decision may not be up to him. Despite this, the India tour of West Indies will push through. The odds for this tour are yet to be revealed. To find out more about cricket odds, visit Betwala's page.
