The Somerset team currently has their eyes fixed on winning the Bob Willis Trophy against Essex.
Somerset may be the only county cricket club who hasn’t bagged home the championship for the County Championship yet. As the season gets cancelled, Somerset will definitely not get to take home the title. For now, the team is mainly focused on bringing home the Bob Willis Trophy if they win against Essex.
Despite it not being the Championship that the team had hoped for, winning the Bob Willis Trophy will bring so much pride and prestige to the team. Their match against Essex can have them prove themselves even further should they win the trophy. Somerset was able to reach the BWT final as they finished off as the second placers of the County Championship for the last two seasons.
As the team wishes to step up their game, Somerset head coach Jason Kerr says, ‘Arguably the best two teams in the country over the last couple of years have been ourselves and Essex. The final game we drew last year, there was inclement weather and Essex was a few points ahead of managing to take the title. They were deserved champions. They were the best team’.
Kerr also stated that Lord’s, being a neutral ground, would be a perfect opportunity for Somerset to play against Essex again. So far, Somerset has won four out of their five matches and has proved themselves worthy of the trophy with their bowling skills.
Kerr added, ‘The aim coming out of last year was to improve on our skill. We finished second in 2019 and we wanted to make sure we were getting better year on year. For me, we have done that. Our philosophy is always to challenge our own standards. To look at where we are right now and how do we improve on that. It was fine margins given the standards of the guys now’.
So far, the odds for the upcoming BWT match is -109.89 for Somerset and -120.48 for Essex. To check the odds of other upcoming matches, check out Betwala.
