The former India captain is also serving as president of the CAB

Former cricketer Sourav Ganguly is set to be the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The members of the board had a meeting at a hotel in Mumbai on October 13. Two groups led by Anurag Thakur and N Srinivasan were present in the meeting to elect their candidate as president.

They decided that Ganguly will be the new BCCI president. Karnataka’s Brijesh Patel is set to be the new chairman of the Indian Premier League.

‘Finally, the decision was taken to bring Sourav on board. He will have just 10 months as president but he has a lot of experience as an administrator, considering he’s efficiently headed the Cricket Association of Bengal. Moreover, under the COA, cricket has suffered badly, so someone like Ganguly will be instrumental in putting things back together’, a source said.

The source also commented about Brijesh’s running for president. ‘Yes, Brijesh was running for the president's post with N Srinivasan actively lobbying for him. However, there was stiff resistance against him. We are happy Sourav is the new president’.

Sourav Ganguly played in 400 international cricket matches. He is a famous batsman who earned the nickname ‘God of the Off Side'. Ganguly holds the record for being the 8th highest run-scorer in One Day Internationals (ODIs). To know more about cricket formats, read the page on Betwala.
