De Kock will lead the T20I squad of the South African cricket team for their upcoming tour of India
Quinton de Kock has a possibility to be South Africa’s captain for the 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia. He will lead the T20I squad who will play against India. The South African cricket team are set to begin their tour of India on September 15 with its first T20I match.
'I strongly believe that we have a good enough squad. We have a good leader here. It's also an opportunity to start building for the future. We know where Faf stands, as a captain and as a player. He's done great things for South African cricket. We also need to look at what the future looks like. We believe in Quinton, who's going to be leading the team in this series.' said Proteas new team director Enoch Nkwe.
Regular captain Faf du Plessis is absent on the T20 series which is why de Kock will take over. The board is now looking for candidates for the new captain in the format. Du Plessis’ age (35) is one of the reasons why the board is looking for a new one.
Before the T20 World Cup starts, they will face a lot of challenges, close to 20 games. South Africa’s tour of India is their first assignment since their failed campaign at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The odds for their first T20I match against India will be available soon at Betwala.
