Coach Henderson said the Proteas are desperate to win more matches
South Africa spin bowling coach Claude Henderson said that the Proteas are desperate to continue their winning momentum after their first 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup match win against Afghanistan last Saturday. The Proteas won by nine wickets using the DLS method.
“Very desperate. It means a lot to everyone in the camp; all the players and the support staff,” said Henderson to Sport34.co.za. “There is a lot of pride in South African sport and in the country. They owe this to themselves and also to the supporters.”
Henderson continued that he thinks South Africa can beat New Zealand in their upcoming match if the team played solid cricket.
“We respect every opposition we play, and New Zealand is one of the better teams in world cricket. They have shown in the last decade how strong they can be, especially in big tournaments. I think we can beat them if we play solid cricket,” stated Henderson. “We haven’t started well, but the boys have worked really hard. There have been a lot of discussions and if we play good, basic, strong cricket then we’ve got a very good chance.”
South Africa will play against New Zealand today at Edgbaston Cricket Ground. The Proteas currently have +110 odds to win the game while the Black Caps have -128 odds.
