MS Dhoni confirmed his unavailability for the T20I series against South Africa
India Cricket Team captain Virat Kohli made a throwback tweet on his Twitter. A photo of him and former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was attached on the post. It was taken during a match against Australia in the 2016 T20 World Cup.
India was chasing a 161-run target in this match. They were at 49/3 in 7.4 overs with wickets lost early. Kohli and Yuvraj Singh made a partnership and stitched a 45-run stand during the fourth wicket. MS Dhoni joined Kohli to make a run stand of 67 for the team.
India won the match by six wickets. They later stepped into the semi-final against the West Indies. However, they lost the match by seven wickets.
‘A game I can never forget. Special night. This man, made me run like in a fitness test @msdhoni’, Kohli wrote.
The tweet made by Kohli sparked talks about MS Dhoni’s retirement. There had been rumours about his imminent retirement but it has been repeatedly denied by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The BCCI dismissed the speculations on MS Dhoni’s retirement on September 12. Chief selector MSK Prasad said that Dhoni hasn’t said anything about hanging his shoes. MS Dhoni confirmed earlier that he will not participate in the T20I series against the Proteas.
‘No, absolutely not. I am really surprised to hear that’, Prasad said during a press conference for the announcement of India’s Test squad against South Africa.
India is set to play their first Test match against South Africa on October 2 following the T20I series. The first T20I match will be held on September 15 at Dharamshala. Odds for this match will be available soon. Check out the latest cricket odds at Betwala.
