With the first Ashes Test match coming to an end, some players have seen their ICC ranking rise. One of the most notable players who has risen in ranking is Steve Smith, who moved up one place in batsmen’s ranking. Spinner Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins also moved up the ranking for bowlers, with Lyon moving to number one.
Smith’s two centuries (144 and 142) in the first Test put him in third place, being one of three players with a 900 plus mark. Virat Kohli is in first with 922, followed by Kane Williamson with 913; Smith has 903. Nathan Lyon’s seven wickets helped him reach 13th position for bowlers’ rankings. Pat Cummins has topped the rankings with a rating of 898 points.
As for England, Ben Foakes and Chris Woakes are in the 69th and 70th position after gaining a point and eleven points, respectively. Rory Burns also moved up 25 places putting him at 81st, a career-best.
Stuart Broad, who got his 100th Test wicket against Australia during the match, moved to 16th position. Woakes moved to the 29th position after taking four wickets in the match; he also passed teammate Moeen Alo in all-rounders’ rating, moving to ninth.
