Rajasthan Royals captain Steve Smith has been fined with Rs 12 lakh for slow-over rate.
The Rajasthan Royals becomes the third team to have been fined for slow-over rates in this season of the Indian Premier League. Similar to Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Virat Kohli and Delhi Capitals’ Shreyas Iyer, RR’s team captain Steve Smith was also fined Rs 12 lakh for the team’s slow over-rate.
An official media statement from the BCCI read, ‘As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Smith was fined Rs 12 lakh’.
The penalty was another disappointment for the team captain as they had also lost their game against the Mumbai Indians. There they had lost by 57 runs and were bowled out for 136 while chasing 194. Smith also managed to score six runs and was one of the four wickets that had been taken by Jasprit Bumrah.
Talking about the probable reason for their defeat, Smith says, ‘I think losing wickets early doesn’t help, we haven’t been able to get off to a good start in the last three games. Outside of Jos (Buttler) and (Jofra) Archer at the end, we have a bit of work to do on our batting’.
‘I don’t think we need to panic too much, it is just about implementing our plans and playing some good cricket for longer. We haven’t been able to do that in the last three games and we have to turn it around quickly. Hopefully get a bit of momentum’, he added.
Having four points from five matches, the Royals are currently placed seventh on the points table of the league. The team’s next game will be played on October 9 where the odds are +116 for the Rajasthan Royals and -153.85 for the Delhi Capitals. To know the odds of other upcoming matches, check out Betwala.
