English player Stuart Broad takes down his 500th Test wicket and gets named as man of the match in their game against the West Indies.
At the start of the third Test match against the West Indies, Stuart Broad had 499 test wickets to his name. In the same match which had been ongoing for days, he had already taken a total of 8 wickets and having one more would make him a member of cricket’s most exclusive clubs.
Rain poured down and had caused the players to stay off the field for about 16 minutes. Once the game has resumed, Broad had taken his 500th wicket when he dismissed Kraigg Brathwaite with an undeniable LBW.
With Brathwaite having exited the team, the West Indies had been forced to chase 399 more runs for victory. Unfortunately for the West Indies, they were not able to reach the target score. With that, England bagged home the victory and the Wisden Trophy.
Despite Broad being out of the game on the first Test match, he was still able to prove himself and thus become the seventh bowler of all time to pick up a total of 500 Test Wickets. Prior Broad’s performance, English player James Anderson also took his 500th Test wicket in a 2017 game where he had also eliminated Brathwaite from the game.
As the games were held behind closed doors, no audience was there to show their support for Broad. However, countless support poured in on social media for him. In response, Broad posted in his Instagram account to say, ‘Blown away by the kind support. Thank you so much. To take # 500 in a Test match win leading to a series win feels very special. I love cricket 🏏 😁’.
