After the postponement of the T20 Blast, Surrey County Cricket Club decides to cancel two more player contracts.
With uncertainty surrounding the rest of the 2020 season of the T20 Blast, Surrey County Cricket Club decided to cancel the contracts of D’Arcy Short and Shadab Khan. With that, the two players became a part of the long list of cricket players whose contracts had been cancelled with county cricket clubs.
A statement of Surrey’s director of cricket Alec Stewart says, ‘Given the postponement of (the Blast) and the current uncertainty around the makeup of the domestic season ... it was mutually agreed that the players' contracts would be cancelled’. He also thanked both Short and Khan as well as their management teams for understanding the current situation.
Amid the outbreak of COVID-19, all professional cricket events in England and Wales to be held before July 1 had all been called off. Even the debut of The Hundred where Short and Khan were supposed to play had been deferred to 2021.
To date, uncertainties and restrictions still surround the possibility of the T20 Blast being pushed through this year. To know more about the T20 Blast League where Surrey belongs to, visit Betwala.
