The former cricket player thinks Kohli still has a long way to go
Syed Kirmani does not believe that 30-year-old Kohli is India’s best Test captain yet. The former wicketkeeper chooses MS Dhoni as a better Test captain than Kohli. Dhoni and Kohli have been compared with each other following the end of India’s West Indies tour. India won all two Tests against West Indies, with Kohli serving as team captain. Aside from the Test series, the team also won the T20I and ODI series of the tour.
Including the tour’s Test series, India has won 28 out of 48 Test matches with Kohli as captain. Kohli has a success rate of 58.33. Meanwhile, Dhoni led India to 27 wins in 60 Test matches before he retired from the format. This makes his success rate lower than Kohli’s at 45.
Kirmani still thinks Dhoni is a better over-all captain for India. ‘In every era, there is a captain with different individuals. When Dhoni was the captain, he succeeded in all three formats and took the Indian team to the highest level. He was acclaimed as the best captain India ever had’, said Kirmani.
The former cricket player adds that Kohli still has a long way to go as captain. ‘Give him (Kohli) some more time to achieve many more records. You cannot acclaim him as the best Indian captain ever. It is Dhoni who has been acclaimed as the best Indian captain ever, so far’, stated Kirmani. ‘So, Kohli has a long way to go. Easily, five more years are there with Kohli as India skipper’.
