Taylor believes New Zealand can win their upcoming England match
New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor believes his team can win against England in their upcoming match. This comes after the Kiwis lost two consecutive matches against Pakistan and Australia.
“We definitely haven’t got the momentum that we would have liked in the last couple of games, but tomorrow (today) is a different story against (a) different opposition,” said Taylor in a press conference prior to their England match.
Taylor continued that he wants to help his team captain Kane Williamson score for the team. Right-handed batsman Williamson had been averaging more than a hundred runs in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 matches compared to the limp attack of his team.
“I’d love as a team to take a little bit of pressure off Kane and score some runs and not let him do everything,” stated Taylor who was not able to turn his two half-centuries into a big score in the tournament.
Taylor also stated that his team always had great matches against England. He continued that their upcoming match against the host nation was similar to World Cup 2015 where the Kiwis needed to win the game. New Zealand was successful in the previous 50-over series because they sealed a 3-2 win over England.
“Every time we played England in the last little while, it’s been a great series. I think it came down to the wire in that series back home and the last time we were here was a must-win,” said Taylor. “I think it was two-all, and Jonny Bairstow came in fresh and batted well (83 not out). Obviously, another big game coming up tomorrow and hopefully, we’re up for it.”
New Zealand will play against England today at Riverside Ground. The Black Caps currently have +205 odds to win the game while the home team have -244 odds.
