Coach Simmons revealed about the decision to replace Asghar Afghan
Afghanistan coach Phil Simmons revealed that there is tension between him and chief selector Dawlat Ahmadzai after team’s fifth straight defeat in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.
Ahmadzai blamed Simmons for not preparing the team properly for the tournament. Meanwhile, Simmons disclosed in an interview that Ahmadzai decided to replace batsman Asghar Afghan as the captain of all three formats less than two months before the competition started.
“I am in the middle of a World Cup and trying to get our team to perform to the level we expect,” said Simmons on his Twitter. “But at the end of the World Cup I will tell the Afghanistan people about the part that Mr. Dawlat Ahmadzai had to play in our preparation and his part in the dismissal of #AsgharAfghan.”
Afghanistan will play against India on Saturday at Rose Bowl Cricket Ground. The minnows currently have +83000 odds to win the tournament.
