It was confirmed that there are no changes in the schedule of the IPL night games and will officially start on March 29.
Brijesh Patel, Indian Premier League’s Governing Council Chairman confirmed that the upcoming 13th season of the IPL will officially start on March 29, while the final will be on May 24.
‘There will be no change in the timing of IPL night games. It will start from 8 pm like earlier years. There was discussion about 7:30 pm but it's not happening’, Sourav Ganguly stated, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president. ‘We will have only five doubleheaders (4 pm and 8 pm) this time. IPL final will be held in Mumbai’, he added.
However, the major change of the upcoming season is that a concussion substitute and a third umpire is confirmed to be introduced. This is because of the increasing incidents of cricketers getting injured while batting.
Ganguly also stated that there will be an IPL All-Stars tournament on March 23 in which the proceeds will be donated to a charity.
'It will be an IPL All-Stars Game three days before start of IPL. The venue is not Ahmedabad as it is still not match ready. We have not decided on where we will make the donation', Ganguly said.
