Iqbal, Mahmudullah, and Rahman decided not to participate in the CPL 2020 because of various reasons.
Originally, CPL 2020 was about to start this August 18 in Trinidad and Tobago. As players start to prepare themselves for its resumption, three Bangladeshi players have decided to opt-out of the game. Namely, Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah Riyad, and Mustafizur Rahman.
With regards to their reasons of backing out, Iqbal had declined the CPL to make himself available for the Dhaka Premier League. Mahmudullah, on the other hand, opted out due to some family reasons. Meanwhile, Rahman backed out due to the fact that he has high hopes of playing in the Bangladesh national team should international cricket resumes.
Both Iqbal and Mahmudullah have already experienced playing in the CPL and had in fact shared how it has been fun for them. However, Iqbal really decided to reserve himself for the DPL while Mahmudullah decided to follow his family’s request that he refrain from travelling.
Meanwhile, Rahman was supposed to play for the CPL for the first time but decided not to push through. He says, ‘I don't know when our country's domestic and national cricket will start again. If the corona's intensity and severity decrease and the situation return to normal, the postponed tour or home series could start again now. I do not know when and without knowing it, if I sign a contract to play in the CPL, then it can be a big problem’.
‘My country is first priority and has to play for the country. But if I give my words to the CPL team, then they will also have a problem. If they don't get me in the right place after making a deal with me, then they will have problem and so I said no’, he added.
