The right-handed batsman currently plays for the Chennai Super Kings and instead wants to play for the Mumbai Indians.
Tom Banton looks like he is the next big-name white-ball cricket player to hail from England. In the last few years, the defending cricket World Champions have produced some of the best limited-overs batsmen the game has seen. Banton is set to join that elite list of players thanks to his outstanding performance.
He recently made his T20I debut in New Zealand after an excellent One-Day tournament which was followed by an incredible T20 Blast season. However, he failed to make a good impression, scoring just 18, 31, and seven runs in those three matches. It was his performance in the domestic scene that got him on the radar.
Banton is going to play in the Big Bash League (BBL) with the Brisbane Heat. He also plied his trade for Qalandars in the recently-concluded Abu Dhabi T10 League. There, he scored two half-centuries. There are also reports that he is going to get a deal from an IPL franchise in the upcoming auction.
In a report earlier this month, the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings expressed their interest in having Banton on their team. However, the England star said that he would love to play for the Mumbai Indians.
‘Playing in the IPL has been a dream from a very young age. You see the big crowds and the attention it has. I am in the IPL auction this year (December 19), so fingers crossed somebody picks me’, said the player. ‘As a kid, I have always loved watching Mumbai Indians. Then I had the good fortune of playing at the Wankhede for the England U-19 team. There was tremendous support at the ground then, even though we lost 5-0’.
The Indian Premier League is a professional Twenty20 cricket league in India contested during March or April and May of every year by eight teams representing eight different cities in India. To find out more about the IPL, visit Betwala’s page.
