The Australian batsman served as vice captain during the Ashes 2019
Australia batsman Travis Head has signed with Sussex for the 2020 season. The county confirmed that Head will play all three formats. He was originally scheduled to join the team in the 2019 season. However, he got a call-up for the Ashes 2019 and Sussex instead recruited Alex Carey.
‘I've known Trav for a number of years. We have a really good relationship and after we decided here at Sussex that an overseas batsman would complement our squad next year I just knew that Travis would be ideal’, said former fast bowler Jason Gillespie. He also coaches the Adelaide Strikers where Head plays.
‘We wanted a top four batsman to improve our team and Travis will do that. He's shown his class in his international career so far, he brings some useful off-spin and he will offer good leadership support to our captains from his time leading South Australia and the Strikers’, he added.
The 25-year-old batsman led South Australia to the Sheffield Shield final in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. He also became the Strikers’ captain and won their maiden BBL title in 2017-18. He took part in the first four Ashes Tests in England this year where he scored 191 runs before being dropped in the final Test.
Travis Head debuted in Test cricket in October last year. He is also the Australian Cricket Team’s Test vice-captain. To know more about Test cricket, check out the page on Betwala.
