The Indian skipper and captain, Virat Kohli, became the third highest-run getter between Indian ODI captains.
Currently, the Men in Blue are in the middle of a tour of New Zealand. During the first ODI match, Virat Kohli was able to score a whopping 51 off 63 deliveries before he was taken out by Ish Sodhi.
The 31-year-old is known for breaking records and his excellent leadership skills as he leads his team to bring home victory. So it is not a surprise that he has bagged yet another achievement.
Kohli surpassed Sourav Ganguly in the ranking for the most ODI runs by Indian skippers. Now, Kohli has a total of 5,123 runs, surpassing BCCI Chief Ganguly’s 5,082 in 148 ODIs.
At the top of the list is former skipper MS Dhoni who is the highest Indian run-scorer in the ODIs with a total of 6,641.
Overall, the captain with the record of scoring the highest number of runs in ODIs is Australia’s former cricketer, Ricky Ponting with a total of 8,497 from 230 matches. Following him is Dhoni and Stephen Fleming with 6,295 from 218 ODIs.
The second ODI match between India (-192.31) and New Zealand (+160) is scheduled on February 8 at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand.
