The roses symbolize the number of runs he scored during the South Africa tour.
Indian team captain Virat Kohli has reached new heights in terms of a successful career, thanks to his excellent performance and outstanding career record. His popularity has spread across India like wildfire and has since become a household name. This claim can be supported by a recent incident in Gobindapur, Kolkata.
As soon as people heard the news that Kohli was in town, people from Gobindapur left their homes and flooded the streets. Before the historic pink-ball Test against Bangladesh, he visited Anandaghar. It is a home run by Organisation For Friends Energies and Resources (OFFER) which offers help for HIV positive kids. Due to the number of people who flocked to see the star player, the police had a difficult time controlling the crowd.
There, 70 kids had the opportunity of a lifetime - to meet the star player. With Kohli there, the children, for a moment, forgot about their problems and struggles. ‘Stay happy, that’s the most important thing’, said Kohli. The kids then handed him 254 roses, symbolizing the 254 runs he scored against South Africa in a Test match last October. ‘We are giving you 254 roses. Please score more than that at the Eden’, said one kid.
India will face Bangladesh for their second Test, then the West Indies for three T20Is. To find out more about India’s upcoming matches, visit Betwala’s page.
