Skipper Virat Kohli praises bowlers after defeating the Proteas in the Test series
Skipper Virat Kohli praised the bowling department after the first Test series match against South Africa. Kohli lauded the team’s pace attack for delivering consistent attacks despite the humid weather in Visakhapatnam. India won the first Test series by 203 runs.
During the match, pacer Mohammed Shami delivered a powerful spell, claiming 5 wickets that collapsed South Africa team. India cricket team now leads 1-0 in the Test series.
‘It’s all about the attitude. If fast bowlers are going to think that spinners are going to do all the work, then it doesn’t justify their place’, said Kohli.
‘They ask for shorter spells so they can give 100%. That’s when you see guys like Shami, Ishant, Jasprit and Umesh doing well. It’s all about wanting to make a play for the team even in conditions that are difficult’, he added.
During the first innings, Ishant Sharma was the only wicket-taker of the team. However, Mohammed Shami made his come back in the second innings and dismantled the Proteas with his five-wicket along with 33 runs.
‘Shami has been a strike bowler in the second innings. All the guys lived up to their strengths. While batting heroes were obvious bowlers had it tougher in this game’, said Kohli.
Pacers Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin also delivered well during the Test series. Ashwin claimed 7 wickets while Jadeja took 6.
India and South Africa are scheduled to play their second Test series on October 10, 2019, at Pune.
