The batsman was injured during the last ODI match against West Indies
Captain Virat Kohli led the India cricket team to another win in their last ODI match against West Indies last August 14. The match was part of India’s ongoing West Indies tour that kicked off last August 3. The ODI match was held at the Queen’s Park Oval in Spain. Kohli was named Player of the Match for his impressive play. Kohli had a minor injury scare during the match but that did not stop him from delivering a great performance on the field.
Kohli was injured during the 27th over of the ODI match. He was hit on the right thumb by a bouncer from West Indies bowler Kemar Roach. Medical staff quickly attended to his injury on the field. Kohli gave an update on his injury after the match. The Indian captain’s thumb injury was not serious after all.
‘I don’t think it’s a fracture otherwise I wouldn’t have continued (batting). It’s just a split of the nail. Luckily, it’s not broken. When I got hit I thought it was worse than what it turned out to be. But it’s not broken so I should be good for the first Test,' Kohli stated. India won the ODI match against West Indies by six wickets (DLS Method).
India won the previous ODI match as well, with Kohli named as Player of the Match again. The team’s ODI series win is their second victory against West Indies. India also won all the matches of the tour’s T20I series.
India’s West Indies Tour 2019 proceeds to the Test series of the tour. The first Test match starts on August 22. Virat Kohli continues to lead the Men in Blue as team captain for the Test series.
