Virat Kohli loses the No.1 batsman spot to Australian cricketer Steve Smith after his performance against the Kiwis.
Virat Kohli slips away from being the No.1 batsman in the ICC Rankings after his unimpressive performance in the Test match against New Zealand which took place in Wellington. Kohli is then replaced by Australian cricketer Steven Smith who now has the title for the eighth time after he had lost it in 2015.
Kohli and Smith had been tough competitors for the No.1 spot throughout the years. It was in 2015, however, when NZ captain Kane Williamson held the spot for a brief duration of 8 days. The spot was then returned to Indian captain Virat Kohli.
Smith automatically replaces the Men in Blue captain in the top spot after the latter was only able to score 21 runs in two innings in the team’s first Test match against New Zealand. Aside from that, the Indian team also lost that game by 10 wickets under Kohli’s captaincy.
Aside from Kohli losing the top batsman spot, India, for the first time, also dropped some points in the ongoing ICC Test Championship after suffering from a 10-wicket loss against the Kiwis.
The Men in Blue is once again set to face the Black Caps in a Test match that will start on February 29 at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The odds of the game are -111.11 for New Zealand and -105.26 for India. For more reliable odds, head over to Betwala.
