He described the former team captain as sharp and instinctive
Former cricketer Virender Sehwag recalls his career in Indian cricket. He started as a middle-order batsman until he earned the spot of being an opener. He told how Sourav Ganguly changed his career when he prompted him to play as an opener. The former team captain gave him a lot of opportunities to shine.
‘He explained to me that the opening slot was vacant, so if I take it, my place in the side will be guaranteed. But in case I was against the idea and wanted to stick to the middle order’, Sehwag said.
‘I would have to wait for someone to get injured. But what convinced me was his very practical suggestion that he was to give me later. I will give you three to four innings as an opener. Even if you fail, you will continue to play. And before I drop you, I will again give you a chance in the middle order’, he added.
He described Ganguly as a sharp and instinctive captain. He also said that a lot of cricketers learned a lot from Ganguly’s captaincy. Now that the former skipper is the newly-elected BCCI president, Sehwag said that Ganguly is the best man for the job.
Virender Sehwag was the former captain of the Delhi Daredevils, a franchise that plays for the Indian Premier League. To know more about the IPL, read the page on Betwala.
