The West Indies had left out Shimron Hetmyer and Evin Lewis from their lineup for the upcoming ODI against Sri Lanka.
The West Indies are seriously preparing for their upcoming three-match ODI Series against Sri Lanka. With the announcement of their 15-man squad, most people became surprised that Evin Lewis and Shimron Hetmyer had been dropped from the team’s lineup.
Lewis had served to be the best batsman on the West Indies’ recent Colonial Medical Insurance ODI Series against Ireland. In fact, he was the leading run-scorer of the team as he had garnered a total of 208 runs in three innings on the said match that took place last month. Hetmyer, on the other hand, became an integral part of the team’s batting group.
Despite their impressive performances, the two didn’t happen to meet the team’s new minimum standard fitness requirements. With that, the two players had been temporarily replaced by Darren Bravo and Rovman Powell who had well met their requirements. Aside from the two recalled players, Fabian Allen who missed the India series will also make his comeback on the match against Sri Lanka.
Even Cricket West Indies’ lead selector Roger Harper stated in an interview that they were quite disappointed that Lewis and Hetmyer didn’t make it through and that the two players will be missed on the tour.
However, the West Indies is currently building its team performance to face the Sri Lankan team who is also well-conditioned for their upcoming ODI match series that will start on February 22. To further understand ODI matches, head over to Betwala.
