The captain of the Kiwi team, Kane Williamson sustained a left shoulder injury during the T20I series against India.
Kane Williamson missed out on the final two T20I matches and the first two ODI matches against India. In his absence, New Zealand’s skipper, Tom Latham stood in as captain and led the team to win the first two ODI matches.
New Zealand is eyeing to sweep a whitewash against the Men in Blue, hoping to end the series with an overall of 3-0.
The Kiwi team is suffering from the absence of players including Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry due to injuries. Then, both Scott Kuggeleijn and Mitchell Santner missed out on the second ODI match.
Tim Southee who was battling an illness, took down India captain, Virat Kohli. However, soon after that, Southee had to leave the match after ten overs. They called their assistant coach, Luke Ronchi as a substitute fielder.
Now, Williamson is expected to come back for the final ODI match at the Bay Oval. The team is expecting that his return will help resolve some issues.
According to bowling coach, Shane Jurgensen, both Santner and Ish Sodhi will also join the squad the for the last ODI match.
After the conclusion of the ODI series between New Zealand and India, the two teams will meet once again for a two-match Test series starting on February 21.
