Ireland team is confident they can win against England in Test match
Ireland wicketkeeper and batsman Gary Wilson said the team can win against England in their upcoming Test match because they have a good mix of players. Wilson continued that the team did not expect to play at Lord’s but they are going to give their best performance in the match.
“We have to try and put in a good performance against a very good England side, but we've got some good players as well and we're confident we can do that,” said Wilson in an interview after their first training session at Lord’s.
“In my generation, I don't think any of us expected to be playing a Test match at Lord's, so to have the opportunity is great,” stated Wilson. “But we mustn't lose sight of the fact that we have to come here and perform as well. I mean that's what it is about, it's not just turning up and having all the fanfare around Lord's.”
Wilson also stated that weather conditions in England have a chance to affect their Test game.
“It might have an impact on the wicket. It might dry it out as the game goes on,” said Wilson. “I guess we'd rather have good weather than poor rainy weather!”
Ireland will play their first Test match against England at Lord’s Cricket Ground on July 24 to 28. Currently, England has -10000 odds to win the game while Ireland has +1750 odds.
