Singh praised Dhoni and said that he was the biggest fan.
Yograj Singh, Yuvraj’s father, made the headlines when he started criticizing MS Dhoni for India’s loss in the 2015 and 2019 World Cup semi-finals, as well as accusing him of dropping players such as Yuvraj, Gautam Gambhir, and Virender Sehwag during his term as captain. However, just recently, he had a ‘change of heart’ and said that he never blamed Dhoni for the losses and even praised Dhoni for giving glory to the country.
Videos online showed that Yograj Singh despised MS Dhoni, called him ‘filthy,’ and blamed him for not picking his son Yuvraj for the team despite being fit. In a recent interview, Yograj Singh clarified that he never blamed MS Dhoni for the losses in the semi-finals of the recent and prior World Cup, stating that it wasn’t him. Instead, he praised the wicketkeeper-batsman for serving the country and his tremendous captain leadership skills. He said that he “never said this” and that he “never blamed MS Dhoni for the loss… It’s a case of mistaken identity.”
When asked about Dhoni’s decision to take a break from cricket and serve in the army, Singh again praised Dhoni. He felt that almost everyone should serve the country just as Dhoni is doing. He then added that Dhoni made some important but uneasy decisions. He added that “there is no doubt that he has been serving the nation for a long time. He is a legendary player. In fact, I am Dhoni’s fan. The way he has played the cricket, the way he has led the side, the kind of decisions he has taken, has been very good.”
MS Dhoni led the Indian Cricket National Team to the finals back in 2011, where they won the tournament. Following this, they only made it to the semi-finals and no further. To find out more about the different cricket formats, visit Betwala’s page.
