The Zimbabwe team has landed in Islamabad for their Pakistan tour without their head coach Lalchand Rajput.
Zimbabwe head coach Lalchand Rajput will have to miss out the tour of Pakistan due to travel restrictions that had made him exempted. With that, bowling coach Douglas Hondo will be in charge of the team for the said tour.
The situation has been explained by Zimbabwe Cricket which released an official statement that says, ‘The Embassy of India in Harare wrote to Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) asking that Rajput, who is an Indian national, be exempted from visiting Pakistan for the limited-overs tour in accordance with the travel guidelines stipulated by the Government of India for its citizens’.
A tweet has also been posted by the board in which they stated, ‘@ZimCricketv head coach @Lalchandrajput7 will miss the @TheRealPCB tour after the Embassy of India in Harare wrote to @ZimCricketv asking that he be exempted from visiting Pakistan. The Embassy of Pakistan in Harare had issued a visa to Rajput’.
Upon the team’s arrival, the Zimbabwe team and staff would have to present two negative COVID-19 tests prior to the tour. One was taken prior to their departure in Harare and the other was taken upon their arrival today.
This tour will be Zimbabwe’s first tour of Pakistan since 2015. The two are scheduled to play three ODIs in Rawalpindi and three T20Is in Lahore. To further understand how these formats of cricket are played, head over to Betwala.
