SG vs DSC Cricket Helmet
SG vs DSC Cricket Helmet
Two inexpensive helmets for casual and non-professional games.
A. SG Cricket Helmet
The SG cricket helmet costs ₹ 949. It is very cheap and can be bought in nearly every cricket store; it is also available on nearly all online shopping websites.
The helmet is made from multiple pieces of high-density foam. This layered approach makes the helmet stronger since only a single material is used to create it. It also makes the helmet lighter than others. The helmet features a removable sweatband that also acts as a cushion for the helmet. The chin strap can sometimes feel too tight especially when worn during over a long period.
The visor is made from full steel. It is quite heavy but it also means that protection is a guarantee. It is spring-mounted on the side of the helmet and is fully adjustable. It also has two air-holes that allow air to flow into the helmet, giving a sense of coolness to the wearer; this is useful when playing under the sun and during long games.
The ear guards are located on the inside of the visor as opposed to it being outside. This can sometimes interfere with a player’s hearing.
The helmet is relatively light and does not weigh that much despite the full steel visor. The sweatbands, as mentioned, add to the comfort of helmet and prevent sweat from reaching the player’s face.
The helmet is meant to be used in casual games only. This means that it is not advisable to use in semi-professional games since most games there use a leather cricket ball.
B . DSC Cricket Helmet
The DSC cricket helmet costs ₹ 879. It is cheap mainly because it is only meant for use in casual games and nothing more. The materials used to craft the helmet also are not the highest quality but still protect you from injury.
The helmet’s outer shell is made from a high density foam while its inner shell is moulded and padded with ABS plastics. The combination of the two makes the helmet surprisingly light and strong, able to withstand direct hits from slow-paced bowls. There is a mesh-like mate material between them that adds an extra layer of protection but is mainly there for ventilation reasons.
The visor is made from steel, a strong and heavy metal. It is directly mounted to the helmet and cannot be adjusted. The ear guards are also made from ABS plastics which help prevent injuries to the sides and the ears.
This helmet also features a removable sweatband for cleaning purposes. It also has
built-in vents that aid in the air-circulation in and around the head. The helmet has a
unique strap adjustment feature that allows it to fit the wearer perfectly.
The helmet is fairly comfortable to use. The only drawback is that it often feels heavier in the front rather than it being of equal weight on all sides.
The helmet is for causal matches only. It is not meant to be used with hard, leather cricket balls because the materials used are not made to withstand a strong force; it could break the helmet. The helmet can also be used in batting practice.
C. Final Comparison
The question to ask yourself here is which helmet is within your price range. Both are meant for nothing more than casual games, so the problem of quality may be taken out of the equation. However, it is worth noting that even though it is a tad more expensive, the SG cricket helmet can better protect you from direct hits to the head - just pray that it’s not a leather ball travelling at 140 kph.
