SG vs Spartan Cricket Shoes
SG vs Spartan Cricket Shoes
Two high-end shoes made from the best materials but cost very differently.
A. SG Ex-Treme Cricket Studs with Metal Spikes
The SG Ex-Treme Cricket Studs with Metal Spikes cricket shoes costs ₹ 3,499. It is quite expensive given that it comes with metal spikes that can be detached. Also, the materials used to create the shoe are top-notch.
The outer part of the shoe is made from PU leather. It gives the shoe a shiny, weathered look while making it firm. The sole is designed with premium rubber and is designed to be a bit bigger than the base of the shoe itself for maximum weight transfer and control. The toe of the shoe is fitted with high-tech, abrasion-resistant materials, allowing for longer use and making it resistant to wear-and-tear.
The inner-toe part of the shoe is made from EVA foam, giving maximum comfort even during sudden stops. The arc of the shoe is made from EPV, making it firmer and able to hold its shape longer; it also makes the arc of the shoe water and dirt resistant. The heel is integrated with a modular design, which makes stopping and turning at speeds easier.
The shoe is minimalistically designed: no excess use of colours, no excess stripes, no eye-popping colours - basically, a no-nonsense design. It uses two contrasting colours which are also easy on the eyes.
Besides laces, the shoe also makes use of a single strap at the top of the shoe. This is to make sure that the shoe won’t come off when running.
The shoe comes with 11 metal spikes, perfect for ensuring you always have maximum traction whether running on the pitch or chasing the ball on the field. The spikes can also be removed and replaced with cleats for fielding.
The shoe is very light even with the cleats or spikes attached. The materials used makes the shoe feel very light and comfortable. When the cleats or spikes are attached, you can barely feel them on the sole of the shoe.
B. SPARTAN Plus White Black Cricket Shoes
The Spartan Plus White/Black cricket shoes costs ₹ 1,490. It’s fairly inexpensive because there are no metal spikes that can be attached on the shoe.
The outer part of the shoe is made from synthetic leather, which isn’t the best type of material to use for a cricket shoe as it can easily be stressed, worn, and torn. The inner part is made from cotton making the shoe light and comfortable.
The sole is made from rubber and EVA foam, giving the wearer comfort when running. They are sewn together to the shoe itself with strong nylon-cloth thread.
The shoe is laced-up, giving the wearer a custom fit to their shoe. The shoe also has a few ventilation holes for letting air enter and exit the shoe.
The shoe makes use of only one eye-catching colour which helps avoid it from being too painful to look at. It also mixes very well with the white and black of the shoe.
The shoe offers little traction since there is no spikes or cleats to assist. There is, however, rubber spikes which give very minimal traction.
With the shoe being made of average quality materials, comfort is somewhat questionable. The area around the toes may feel a bit tight; the arc of the shoe can sometimes feel tight even when the laces aren’t that tight.
C. Final Comparison
The SG Ex-Treme cricket shoe is the clear best-decision in this review. Sure, it may cost a lot more than the Spartan, but it gives you 110% value for money. It also gives you maximum friction whether on the pitch or the field, giving you an advantage in chasing (balls and the target).
