Australian cricketer Alex Carey has decided to extend his stay with the Adelaide Strikers as he signs a new four-year contract.
It was in 2017 when Alex Carey first joined the Adelaide Strikers. Even as he only became active in the Big Bash League starting from season six, he already happened to be among those who are on the top of the run scorer tally. Having worked well with the team, he has decided to sign a new four-year contract with the Strikers.
In his official statement, Carey said, ‘I'm very happy to be staying at the Strikers for the next four years being my home team and it is an unbelievable feeling playing at Adelaide Oval in front of the fans, family, and friends, and I really hope that can continue this season’.
‘The Big Bash is a competition I have loved playing in each year since I first signed, and I can't wait for it all to get started’, he added.
Sitting on the third spot of the tally, the 29-year old already has 1,163 runs to his name after having played 35 matches in the league. Aside from that, he has also scored a hundred as well as six fifties for the team.
Talking about Carey, head coach Jason Gillespie said, ‘Alex is a key part of the group, a player and leader of the highest standard, and for him to be at the Strikers for the next four years is a massive result for this franchise, the city and our fans’.
‘We feel we have assembled a squad that covers every facet of the T20 game, and we'll be ready to hit the ground running for a huge tenth season of the Big Bash’, he added.
Despite having lost the vice-captaincy in the national team, Carey remains to be the vice-captain of the Strikers. Still, he is expected to be seen with the club after he takes part in the white-ball part of Australia’s series against India.
The said tour will take place from November 27 to January 19. However, Carey will not be participating in the Test matches as he will already be playing for the BBL after the limited-overs part of the series. BBL|10 will start on December 10.
