Azam will be joining the Somerset’s 2020 season after receiving a No Objection Certificate from the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Babar Azam, a Pakistan batsman, announced his comeback for the 2020 County Championship with Somerset. ‘Somerset has a very good squad and the supporters made me feel very welcome. Hopefully, I can help the Club reach the knock-out stages of the Vitality Blast and contribute to winning matches in the County Championship’, Babar said.
With an impressive strike rate of 149.35 in the last year’s County Championship, he also finished the game as the T20 Blast’s leading run-getter with 578 runs at a 52.54 average. Due to his outstanding performance, he was ranked as the no.1 T20l batsman during the ICC rankings.
According to Andy Hurry, Somerset’s Director of Cricket, ’Babar Azam is the best T20I batsman in the world and his return will be a major boost for us’. Hurry also said that Babar effortlessly blends in with the team and earned a significant role in the game.
‘His batting is so easy on the eye and he is so hungry to evolve his game. He will add significant value to the team, both with his batting and leadership’, Hurry added.
