Carlos Brathwaite Signs with Sydney Sixers

West Indies player Carlos Brathwaite re-signs with Sydney Sixers for the upcoming season of the Big Bash League.

Defending Big Bash League champions Sydney Sixers has added another player to their roster. After having signed English players James Vince and Tom Curran, West Indies player Carlos Brathwaite has officially signed as the team’s third overseas player for the upcoming season.

His signing came a few days after Mitchell Starc had also confirmed his availability for the team. Just recently, it is said that the 32-year-old all-rounder will arrive in Australia before the league starts.

This is the second time that Brathwaite will be playing for Sydney Sixers. Back in BBL|07, he managed to play four games for the team when he was roped in as a replacement player. With that, he was able to help the side on a four-game win streak that helped the team reach the semi-finals.

In an official press release by the team, Brathwaite said, ‘I have very fond memories of Sydney. I think Sydney is easily becoming my favourite city. I have good memories of playing at the SCG in my second Test match and even better memories of playing BBL for Sixers’.

‘The aura of the ground and cricket in NSW with all the history there is special. I remember great times dancing at the games and the times in the dressing rooms with our team. It's a great organisation’, he added.

In a similar manner, Sixers head coach Greg Shipperd shared that he is also excited to see Brathwaite with the team again. He said, ‘We are excited about the prospect of being reunited with Carlos for this unique season 10 of BBL. We were struggling three seasons ago and Carlos joined as a replacement player and we finished four from four and he contributed greatly to our rebalance’.

‘Carlos is a man who embraced our on and off-field endeavours so we are keen to have him back in the fold and contributing his experience to our chase for consistency and another shot at a title’, he added.

As the defending champions of the league, the Sixers will play in the first match of the upcoming season on December 10. There, they will play against the Hobart Hurricanes at the Blundstone Arena. To learn more about these teams and the league, visit Betwala.
