West Indies player Chris Gayle had been roped in by the Quetta Gladiators for the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League.
Just recently, the six teams of the Pakistan Super League have already named their respective star-studded squads for the upcoming season. It is after the success of the 2020 season that the league has decided to come up with a traditional draft for the upcoming season. There, more than 400 international cricketers were considered to be a part of the league’s next instalment.
It was in the said draft that West Indies player Chris Gayle has been signed by the Quetta Gladiators as one of their players. Playing with him would be English batsman Tom Banton. The two of them will be the franchise’s platinum players for the season.
Welcoming the two players in the team, Quetta Gladiators head coach Moin Khan said, ‘We welcome Tom Banton and Chris Gayle to the Gladiators side. We were particularly keen to have Gayle following the retirement of Shane Watson as we wanted someone who is highly experienced and a match-winner in our ranks. We did not have an event to remember last year, but with the players we have selected for the upcoming event, I remain confident that we will bounce back strongly’.
Meanwhile, the other teams had also named their respective platinum squad members. South Africa’s David Miller was signed by Peshawar Zalmi, Australia’s Chris Lynn was signed by Multan Sultan, Pakistan’s Hasan Ali was signed by Islamabad United, and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan was signed by Lahore Qalandars.
The forthcoming sixth season of the PSL will be hosted by Karachi and Lahore this year. The league is scheduled to start on February 20 and end on March 22. Unlike the preceding seasons, the 2021 season will only be held in two venues to restrict the movement of the players. To learn more about the PSL and its teams, head over to Betwala.
