South African player Faf du Plessis has been confirmed to play for Peshawar Zalmi in the upcoming Pakistan Super League playoffs.
South African player Faf du Plessis has been roped in as Kieron Pollard’s replacement for the upcoming playoffs stage of the Pakistan Super League. This is because of the fact that Pollard will be in New Zealand to play with the West Indies team. With that, he has formally been included in the roster of 21 foreign players who will be playing for the said league.
Despite having played in Pakistan before, this will be the first time that du Plessis will be playing for a PSL franchise. In fact, it was in 2017 when he last visited the country to lead the ICC World XI in a three-match T20 series in Lahore.
Talking about his upcoming experience, he says, ‘I am very excited to join Peshawar Zalmi for the playoff stage games of PSL 2020. I have fond memories of playing in Pakistan when I toured with the ICC World XI in 2017 and I am sure this experience, although different due to COVID-19, will be a memorable one as well’.
Du Plessis has also been featured in the Chennai Super Kings of the Indian Premier League where he had managed to score 449 runs in 13 league matches. However, his performance was not enough to send the team to the playoffs of the said league. With that, he becomes more available for the PSL.
By being signed with Peshawar Zalmi, he will be playing alongside other foreign players like his fellow South African player Hardus Viljoen and Bangladeshi player Tamim Iqbal.
Originally, the league was already played between February and March before it was fully put to a halt on March 17 due to the pandemic. On November 14, the league will be ready to resume once more. To know more about the teams of this league, head over to Betwala.
