The 27-year-old extends his contract with the team for one more year
Bowler Fidel Edwards is expected to play with Hampshire until the end of next year’s season. He started playing for the team in 2015. Hampshire is participating in the ongoing County Championship that started last April 5. It will continue until September 23.
‘I’m very pleased to have signed for my sixth season at Hampshire, which has become my second home. Hopefully next year we can push on further and I’ll be trying my best to help make it a successful season for the club’, Edwards said.
The West Indian cricket player made his Hampshire debut in 2015, taking 45 wickets in eight games. Last year, Edwards took 47 wickets including four five-wicket takedowns. Hampshire plays in the Division 1 group of the County Championship.
Hampshire Director Giles White is happy that Edwards will continue playing with the team. ‘Fidel has been fantastic for us since joining in 2015 and this year he’s excelled once again. He’s an important part of our squad and a great character to have in and around the group’, White stated. ‘We’re delighted to welcome him back for another year’.
Hampshire is fourth place in this year’s Divison 1 championship. The team will play three more matches this season against Surrey. The first match between the teams is on September 10. Surrey is the defending champions of the County Championship. Edwards played for St. Lucia Zouks before his Hampshire debut.
