The owners of the Indian Premier League franchise team, Kings XI Punjab purchased the Caribbean Premier League team, St Lucia Zouks.
KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited owns Kings XI Punjab and has now acquired St Lucia Zouks of the Caribbean Premier League.
The first IPL owner to purchase and run a CPL team was Red Chillies Entertainment who owns both Kolkata Knight Riders and Trinbago Knight Riders. Before, Vijay Mallya owned the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Barbados Tridents.
One of the new owners of St Lucia Zouks, Mohit Burman, said, ‘We are excited at the opportunity to invest in one of the most exciting sporting tournaments in the world, and we have been impressed by the vibrancy of CPL over the last seven years. We visualise taking the franchise to the next level and showcasing St Lucia in the best possible light over the coming years’.
The 2020 Indian Premier League is scheduled to happen from March 29 to May 24 and a total of 60 matches will be played between 8 participating teams. The current captain of Kings XI Punjab is KL Rahul, who is included in the national team for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand starting on February 20.
In the latest release of the ICC T20I rankings, Rahul maintained his second spot. However, skipper and India national team’s captain, Virat Kohli moved down to the tenth spot. Both Rahul and Kohli will participate in the upcoming edition of the IPL.
Meanwhile, the Caribbean Premier League will take place from August 19 to September 26 with 34 matches to be played between 6 teams.
