Misbah-ul-Haq is one of the top choices for the position
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided not to renew Mickey Arthur’s contract as the team’s head coach earlier this month. Arthur was sacked along with most of the coaching staff because of Pakistan’s disappointing run under his leadership. The PCB already has a shortlist for the next possible head coach for the team.
Misbah-ul-Haq is one of the top choices for the position. It has been reported recently that he is the leading choice. However, salary is the biggest issue between PCB and Misba-ul-Haq. The 45-year-old asked for the same pay that Mickey Arthur received during his time as Pakistan’s head coach. The PCB is not willing to give the same amount to a local coach.
Another strong option for PCB is former batsman Dean Jones. There are other big names in cricket that applied for the position but PCB is mostly focusing on Jones and Misbah-ul-Haq at the moment. Ul-Haq retired from international cricket in 2017. He still plays for Peshawar Zalmi, a domestic team that plays in the Pakistan Super League.
