The Bangladeshi all-rounder stated previously that he is not mentally prepared to lead in Tests and T20s
Shakib Al Hasan said that he is unwilling to lead the Bangladesh Cricket Team. He said it after their match against Afghanistan in Chattogram. Despite his unwillingness to lead the Tigers, he mentioned that he is open to discussions with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Nazmul Hassan.
‘I think it will be ideal if I didn't have to be the captain’, Shakib said. ‘From a personal point of view, it will be good for my cricket. If I have to take leadership, then we must have discussion about a lot of issues’.
On August 30, Shakib said that he’s not prepared to lead in Tests and T20s. ‘I am not even mentally prepared to lead in Tests and T20s. But the team is not in a good shape, so I understand that I have to lead to get it back on track. Otherwise, I am not really interested in leading in any format. I can focus on myself if I am not captaining, which would help the team’, he said.
Shakib takes the blame of his side’s defeat against Afghanistan. They displayed a poor batting performance which led to criticisms from the public. He explained that the lack of practice and application is one of the reasons why Bangladesh failed to show a powerful batting.
The Bangladesh Cricket Team’s next activity is a T20I match against Zimbabwe in Dhaka on September 13. Shakib Al Hasan is the captain of the team. He is also a player of Dhaka Dynamites that plays in the Bangladesh Premier League. Read more about the cricket league at Betwala.
